This list is comprised of songs released on the Chicago-based Mercury Records and its additional labels Smash, Philips and Fontana. Rankings are based on the popularity of each song during the period of 1950 through 1969.

Patti Page easily tops all artists with 12 entries on the list (three of them in the top ten). The Platters appear seven times, as does Brook Benton (who shares two of his hits with Dinah Washington). Lesley Gore and The 4 Seasons each have four songs, while seven others made the list three times: The Crew-Cuts, Georgia Gibbs, The Gaylords, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington (which includes the two with Brook Benton), George Jones and Roger Miller. The decades are almost evenly split with 49 songs in the 1950s and 51 in the 1960s. The company's fortunes fared best in the middle of each decade; the early '50s' hits gradually increased with each year, peaking with nine entries in 1955. The Smash and Fontana subisidaries and Dutch-based Philips label were added in the early '60s, resulting in a ten-entry peak year in 1964.
