This list brings into play the bygone phenomenon of two-sided hit singles, often the result of misjudgment by record companies seeking to sell as many records as possible. Strong combinations of A and B sides are given preference; many major hits may seem to have a low ranking due to a flip side's lopsided level of chart performance. Rankings take into account an average between the two sides of a single based on popularity, with sometimes unexpected results. Only original 45 or 78 RPM pairings from 1950 through 1969 are eligible.
Elvis Presley leads the list with 14 two-siders (for a total of 28 songs). The Beatles are second with nine two-siders (18 songs) and Ricky Nelson makes a strong showing with seven appearances (14 songs). Pat Boone and The Beach Boys each show up four times (eight songs apiece).
